| Μισός από την Ουρουγουάη, μισός Έλληνας, ο Παναγιώτης Χατζηστεφάνου A. K.A. nanogod, γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα το 1967. Αποφοίτησε από το Central St. Martins το 1992. Αυτοαποκαλείται ερημίτης και φρικιό και περνά τον χρόνο του σε μακάρια απομόνωση κάνοντας ότι περάσει απ’το μυαλό του. Στην προηγούμενη ζωή του ήταν μια δημοφιλής και πολύ ακριβοπληρωμένη πουτάνα των μήντια, κάνοντας art direction και αρχισυνταξία σε περιοδικά που εκτείνονται από το προσανατολισμένο προς τη νεανική κουλτούρα 01 στο να είναι ο deputy editor της ελληνικής Vogue. Έχοντας εγκαταλείψει τα mainstream μήντια από το 2000, έχει διεκδικήσει μια «καριέρα» στις μοντέρνες τέχνες. Η χαοτική του παραγωγή, αποτελείται από ανεξάρτητα DVD και μουσικές κυκλοφορίες, ψηφιακές animated «ταινίες», εικονογραφήσεις, βιβλία για καλλιτέχνες, μυθιστορήματα περιορισμένης κυκλοφορίας, αμφιλεγόμενη δημοσιογραφία σε δημοφιλείς Κυριακάτικες εφημερίδες και σκανδαλώδεις ερμηνείες τέχνης στην mainstream τηλεόραση. Όλα αυτά αναμεμειγμένα με μια παράλογη ροή από όμορφες φωτογραφίες μόδας, art direction και κοστούμια για τον κινηματογράφο και ποιος ξέρει τι άλλο. Η μόνιμή του εμμονή είναι η κατασκευή εναλλακτικών πραγματικοτήτων οπού οι καθορισμοί και οι έννοιες παραμένουν εκτός της σύλληψής μας. Έπειτα από μια σύντομη συμμετοχή στην κολλεκτίβα τέχνης Neen εκτέλεσε χρέη αντιπροσώπου στις ΗΠΑ όταν η Vanessa Beecroft τον επέλεξε για την Biennale των Τιράνων που οργανώθηκε από την Flash Art International το 2001. Η δουλειά του ανήκει στη μόνιμη συλλογή του Δάκη Ιωάννου και στο Εθνικό Μουσείο Σύγχρονης Τέχνης. Πιθανότατα η πιο αμφιλεγόμενη πλευρά του nanogod είναι η άρνησή του να εξαφανιστεί ευγενικά εντός των επιβλητικών περιορισμών των περιοδικών και ιδρυμάτων τέχνης, καθώς είναι ένα πασίγνωστο όνομα στην Ελλάδα. | Half Uruguayan, half Greek Panagiotis Hadjistefanou A.K.A. nanogod was born in Athens 1967. Graduated from Central St. Martin’s in 1992. A self confessed hermit and freak, he spends his time in blissful isolation, doing whatever comes to mind. In a previous life he was a highly sought after and extremely well paid media whore, art directing and editing magazines ranging from the youth culture orientated 01 to being deputy editor for Vogue Hellas. Having quit the mainstream media since 2000, he has pursued a “career” in contemporary art. His chaotic output comprises of independent DVD and music releases, digital animation “movies”, painting, illustration, artist’s books, limited edition novels, controversial journalism in popular Sunday newspapers and scandalous performance art on mainstream television. All that is mixed with a nonsensical stream of pretty fashion photography, art direction and costumes for the cinema, and who knows what next. His permanent obsession is the construction of alternative realities, where definitions and meaning remain out of grasp. After briefly participating in the Neen art collective, he represented the USA, when Vanessa Beecroft chose him for the Tirana Biennale, organized by Flash Art International in 2001. His work is in the permanent collection of Dakis Joannou and The Greek Museum of Contemporary Art. Perhaps the most controversial aspect of nanogod is his refusal to disappear within the august confines of art magazines and galleries. Being a household name in Greece, he is a peculiar 21st century hybrid. An excellent illustration of his work is the video illustrating the Naveed Tahernia Sounds of Instruments Volume 2 mix or the even more recent Sounds of instruments vol 3, with a mix by Terry Lee Brown Jr. |
