With almost 500 pages, absolutely zero advertising, and no text at all, the first issue of nanogod came out in the summer of 2006, in a few, collector’s copies. Utopian, recherché, aesthete - nanogod issue 2, autumn 2007, has no alibis and does not wish to be useful or understandable. It aims for lovers of self-confident images, for views that need no explanation. An elaborate group show catalog, an artist’s book, a mutation between an art book and a magazine – all these characterizations might be apt if they didn’t aspire to rules that nanogod issue 2 dismisses. Who are the nanogods? Rulers of their own micro-reality, the artists presented by nanogod issue 2 are out of control and won’t explain themselves. Creativity is reason in itself and the image is their only motive. Denuded of critical text, analytical processes, permissions and admissions, they are ready to stand or fall heroically, their only ally being the micro-deity that resides in them. What is nanogods@upstair? nanogods is a group show by the artists featured in nanogod issue 2. It’s opening on the evening of 6th September, at upstair, the coolest nu art space in downtown Athens. Be there after 20:00 for the opening party!
